Create Something New with Your Old Garage Door

In this world of consumption many people find it difficult to recycle.  Although it is simpler to go out and buy a product rather than make it yourself, nothing beats constructing something you need out of old equipment.   Garage doors have a lot of usable parts that can be used in multiple ways.  With a little know how you can convert those old doors into useful items that can be used around the household.

So Much Wood!

Wooden Garage Doors contain a lot of wood.  Don’t let this go to waste.  Before the use of materials like aluminum, wooden doors were very popular.  These doors were not made from composite woo d but from fine quality wood like cherry, chestnut and mahogany.  One idea you are guaranteed to love is the use of a garage door as your head board for your bedroom.    If the design matches the décor of your room you might not have to do much to the door.  If this is the case all you would have to do is a bit of light cleaning.  Depending on the size of your door you might only need to use one panel.

Your Very Own Compost Heap

If you’re into gardening a compost pile will do wonders.  A garage door can provide the perfect frame for a raised garden or compost pole.  Unlike a head board a compose box is better off made using an aluminum or steel door. To cut out the frame use a metal cutting shear.  Dig out a deep enough trench to partially bury your panels, then place them standing up to create your frame.  Hold the panels in place by adding gravel and dirt to the sides.  If you are making a compost pile make sure to leave one side of your frame open so you can easily roll in and out a wheel barrow.

Easy to Make Green House

This project is recommended for someone that is a bit a handy with tools.  You will need a jigsaw for this project.  Start off by cutting out the panels using the jigsaw.  Once these are removed you can attach plexiglas with screws so that light can shine into your green house.  Once all your panels are done you can go ahead and connect them so that you form a box.  Make sure to add hinges to the top so you can have easy access to your plants.

So there you have it.  If you do a little research you will find many projects that you can do with an old garage door.  For those in need of a new garage, look no further than Hudson Valley Overhead Doors and Operators.  With years of experience Hudson Valley Overhead can help you with all your Garage Door needs.  Contact us today for our following services:
