Adjusting Your Travel Limit Settings

Garage doors have a lot of responsibilities, as they open and close to allow entry into the house, offer security to the house, and even regulate the temperature inside the entire home (if they’re insulated).  Since they’re constantly working to complete these tasks, it’s important to maintain their condition.  If not, they may not properly open and close, and it can even be dangerous.  Out of the many things that could happen to them, one of the things that could go wrong is with their limit settings.

The travel limit settings tell the garage door opener when to stop moving the door up and down.  If it’s working well, then the Spencertown garage door should stop when it reaches the open or closed limit.  If the limits are set too high on the closed limit, however, the door will hit the ground before reaching its closing limit.  As a result, the system won’t register that it’s actually closed, causing it to reverse.  The same thing happens if the open limit isn’t accurate.  When this happens, the door will continue in motion until you have a partially closed door.

When your garage door is unable to fully open or close, it can cause further problems.  Not only can you have problems getting your car out of the garage, but it can be a security risk.  A partially open garage door can allow burglars, animals, bugs, and even weather conditions to enter your home.  When this happens, you should call a professional to adjust your settings so that your garage door will open and close without a problem.

While you’re making these changes, you should also consider having a safety reversal system test.  This test will make sure that your garage door automatically reverses if a person, animal, or object is under the door.  This is an important safety feature of your Spencertown garage door, and the test is very fast.  That’s why we recommend getting this test every so often, especially if you are already having your travel limit settings adjusted.
