Are My Rollers Off-Track?

A broken garage door can have a big impact on your everyday life.  For instance, if your car gets stuck inside the garage, you’ll have no way to get to work, take your kids to school, or go grocery shopping.  This is why when something goes wrong with your Clermont garage door, it needs to be fixed immediately.  Although there are many things that can affect the functionality of a garage door, the rollers being off-track is a common reason.  To better understand how to recognize when this happens, and how to prevent it in the future, we’ve pointed out the important facts to know about rollers.

What are rollers?

Garage door rollers are little wheels with ball bearings; they are the most used part of the whole garage door.  They work by attaching to a shaft, which then slides into a sleeve bracket on the door itself.  This allows the door to move up and down without a problem.

How do I know if they’re off-track?

When this happens, there are 3 main things to look for: Is the door stuck? Does it hang loosely from the tracks?  Or does it sit at an awkward angle?  If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then your Clermont garage door may be off-track.  It’s important to note that when this does happen, don’t try to force the door open, as it can bend your tracks and cause your rollers to pop out.

What causes the door to go off track?

It’s important to identify why this happened so that you can prevent it in the future.  Some of the common causes include dirt and lack of lubrication, loose tracks, and damaged tracks.  Another reason could be from force and impacts; for instance, if you accidentally hit your garage door with your car, it could push the rollers off-track.

How do I prevent this from happening?

The best thing that you can do is remember to check the rollers and track every now and then.  If you notice that the rollers are a little out of place or notice anything strange, then you may be able to prevent the garage door from being stuck shut.  In addition, it’s crucial that you keep your tracks lubricated, as it helps the rollers glide without resistance.

If your garage door won’t open, it may be because the rollers are off-track.  For help with Clermont garage door repairs, give us a call at Hudson Valley Overhead Doors & Operators.
