Common Mistakes While Installing A Garage Door

Many of us love learning new things and DIY projects.  The advantage of these projects is that you learn new skills, save money, and get to brag about your accomplishments.  Although this is great for some things, not all projects should be done without experience.  More specifically, we’re referring to installing a new LaGrange garage door.  This is because garage doors have a lot of technicalities; one small mistake can be dangerous, while also costing you a lot of money.  If you’re still considering installing a new garage door on your own, you should be aware of some of the common mistakes that can be made.

Not Checking The Track System

It’s important that the track system is installed correctly.  If not, it could cause your Germantown garage door to be misaligned, which can cause further issues.  For this reason, you should check the alignment at different times throughout the installation.  You can use a vertical level or screwdriver to check if the tracks are level.

Choosing the Wrong Hardware Fasteners

Some people make the mistake of using nails to install their door.  Although they’re good to hang items that don’t move, nails can break after regular use.  A better alternative is lag screws, which is one of the toughest fasteners.

Misplacing Garage Door Opener

If you connect the garage door opener to the wrong place, your Germantown garage door may not work well.  For instance, if you connect the opener to only one side, the door will twist every time it opens.  This is why the lift motor should be connected to the center of the door opening to prevent the door panels from bending.

These are 3 common errors that people make when they install their LaGrange garage door, but there are many other possibilities.  If you need your garage door installed, give us a call at Hudson Valley Overhead Doors & Operators.  With our experience, we’ll make sure that your door is installed properly.
