Fixing Your Broken Garage Door Hinges

Gardiner garage door hinges connect the sections of the Clermont garage door together.  This allows the sections of the Gardiner garage door to navigate along the rounded portions of the tracks.  There are different types of hinges; they can be identified by the numbers on their face.  The hinges in the center of the door have a single sleeve and are labeled #1.  The hinges between the 2nd and 3rd panels are labeled #2, and so on.  When these hinges break, it can cause the Gardiner garage door to not function or open properly.

The reason that these hinges break is that they face a lot of tension each time the Clermont garage door is opened or closed.  Heavy duty hinges should last anywhere between 10 and 15 years; cheaper hinges are made out of thinner metal and will break sooner.  One of the signs that the hinges aren’t working is if there are wobbly or missing screws.  This is because these screws hold the hinges in place; when the hinges deteriorate, the screws become loose.

When this happens, you should try replacing the screws with nuts and bolts.  If this doesn’t help, the actual hinges will need to be replaced.  If you want to replace the hinges yourself, you can go to the hardware store and buy hinges for a range of prices.  If you want profession help, on the other hand, you won’t have to worry about any costly mistakes.  This is because if the job isn’t done right, it could damage the whole garage door, causing expensive repairs.  The great thing about having a professional do this job is that they will also recommend you the right hinges for your needs, as well as your budget.

If you have a broken hinge, we can help you replace it at Hudson Valley Overhead Doors & Operators.  We also have other services, such as new garage door installation, repairing broken springs, replacing broken garage door cables, and more.
