How To Clean Your Track and Rollers

Garage doors have so many different parts that it’s normal for even a well-maintained garage door to need maintenance.  One of the signs that something could be wrong with your door is that it makes a lot of noise.  This could also be a quick fix, however, such as some of the parts needing to be cleaned.  One of the main reasons for excessive noise is caused by dirty rollers and tracks.

The job of your rollers and track are to guide your Germantown garage door up and down when necessary.  When they do this, though, the rollers will pick up any dirt, debris, or dust that was one the track.  When this happens, the internal bearings of the rollers can become seized.  This causes it to drag along the track, which will not only damage it, but also cause loud noises.  This is why it’s important to clean the track and rollers.

To clean your track, which should be done every couple of months, you can use a damp rag to wipe its internal channel.  You can then clean the upper sections of the guide track while the door is closed, and the lower section while the door is open.  To clean the rollers, you’ll have to remove them from the door assembly.  You should then disconnect the automatic opener and lift your door to the halfway point and secure your locking vice grips.  You’ll then have access to your rollers and you can remove them (process depends on what type of rollers you have).  To clean them, spray them with degreaser and use an air compressor or gas duster to clean them.

By cleaning your track and rollers, your Germantown garage door won’t be as noisy.  For more information or help during this process, call your local garage door experts.
