How to Epoxy Coat Garage Floors

Epoxy floor coating is an extremely popular option for garage floors. This floor coating will resist all kinds of stains, including oil stains that frequently happen on the garage floor. Once you opt for an epoxy floor coating, you can wipe clean the floor quickly, always keeping your garage neat and clean. As you already know, concrete floors are challenging to maintain as dirt and stains become embedded. There are many all-inclusive kits available that will make your job easy. All you need is some free time and, of course, an adequate temperature so that the floor coating can dry nicely.

First, you will need to prep the garage floor area. Wash it thoroughly, allow it to dry, and now you have a clean canvas that you can work with. Make sure to use plastic sheeting on the walls and painter’s tape along the edges of the formation. As a next step, you will need to etch the garage floor. If you have bare concrete on the floor, mix the etching solution with water, and wet the floor using your garden hose. Etch the floor in small sections using a broom, and once you finish, you need to rinse the floor again with the hose. Then, you will mix up the epoxy paint with the hardener and stir well for a few minutes so that the components will mix thoroughly. The mixture can feel warm as the chemicals start reacting, but this is normal. Set the can aside for half an hour.

It is finally time to start painting the epoxy on the floor. Make sure to pour the mixture into a tray that is fitted with a liner. Using a paintbrush, paint the epoxy into the corners and around the edges. Then, you will use a roller to paint the epoxy onto the floor and create the coating. As the last step, you will add the color flakes for that beautiful effect.
