If theres one component that cannot be overlooked in a garage door system it is the garage door sensor. Since it’s creation these garage door sensors have been saving lives. They do this by preventing a garage door from closing if anything is in its way.
Garage door sensors are placed on both sides of a garage door. Between these sensors there is a beam of light or a laser which is continuously flowing. If any object cuts this line then the garage door automatically shuts off preventing any harm from befalling a person or vehicle.
Now that you know how important this piece of equipment is find out the proper way to align these sensors to keep you and your family safe.
Steps:
- To be on the safe side turn off the power to your sensors by tripping the fuse for your garage. This will be located in your homes breaker box
- Your sensors will be mounted with screws. Loosen these screws, do not take them all the way out though just loosen them enough so that the mounting brackets can slide up and down.
- Now that you have them loosen slide both garage door sensors downwars so that it is as low as possible without unscrewing the mounting brackets.
- Now go ahead and tie a long piece of string to one sensor. Tie it in a way that if pulled across the garage doorway it will run across the center of the sensor
- Now run the string acroos the doorway and tie it to the opposite sensor. When positioning the knot make sure that the string runs across the center of the second sensor as well.
- Now using a level make sure that the bottom of the string is level, if the string is not level then adjust the corresponding sensor to the appropriate height.
- Tighten the screws once step 6 is completed
- Once the screws are tightened confirm that the string level is level before finishing up
- Once done remove string and test to se if sensors are aligned and working properly
