The Importance of Weather Seals

Oftentimes, when people notice something wrong with their garage, they don’t fix it right away unless it’s “urgent”.  For instance, they may ignore the squeaking noise even though it acts as a warning sign that something else is wrong.  If it’s more urgent, such as their Clermont garage door having trouble opening, they usually feel more rushed to fix the problem.  This can be understandable, as most of us procrastinate the things that don’t need to be fixed right away.  That being said, most of these small adjustments or check-ups don’t really take much time out of our days, and they can make a big difference.  One example of this are weather seals.

Weather seals are found on the four sides of the garage door along the edges.  Their purpose is to close the gap between the Clermont garage door and the ground.  Although many people overlook this small feature, here are the 3 things that it can prevent from entering your garage.

Weather

As the name says, weather seals keep out outside weather.  This is especially important in the harsh New York winters, as we want to keep our houses as warm as possible.  By keeping out cold weather, weather seals can actually lower your heating bills since it’s easier to maintain the desired temperature of your home.

Dirt

It’s natural to have a little dirt in your garage, as your car gets parked there, kids and animals play in there, and it’s often used as storage.  That being said, you want to keep as much dirt out of your garage as possible.  If you don’t have weather seals, these cracks will let in unwanted dirt.

Critters

Critters, as well as bugs, may look for shelter inside of your garage if they can find a way to enter it.  The worst part is that once they’re inside your garage, it’s easier for them to enter your main house as well.

At Hudson Valley Overhead Doors & Operators, we’re experts in everything related to Clermont garage doors.  That being said, we suggest that you take the time to update your weather seals, as well as any other “small” defects that you’ve noticed.  If you have any questions, call us today.
