When you think about what a garage door is, you probably think about how you open and close it to get in and out of your home. The emergency release cord is typically a cord that hangs down from your garage door’s trolley and has a handle at the base. This cord usually hangs a couple feet below the ceiling, meaning you may need a small stool to reach it, depending on your height. The purpose of the emergency release cord is to disconnect the carriage from the trolley, therefore allowing the door to slide along the railing. This allows you to lift the garage door manually.
When you do this, there are a couple of things to remember. To start, your door should be in the down position. If it’s not, the garage door could come crashing down if the springs aren’t functioning well. To test your emergency release cord, try pulling it when the garage door is in the down position.
