Garage door function is not something most of us think of until something does wrong. Preventing malfunction and maintaining the performance of your garage door can be easily achieved with a few steps.
Solvent. Use a penetrating solvent such as WD-40 or a citrus-based solvent to loosen any build up on important pieces of garage door hardware. If any of the rollers or hinges seem stuck soak in kerosene and remove rust with steel wool.

Clean. Once everything has been sprayed with solvent or soaked that needs it, wipe clean any loosened debris and dirt.
Lubricate. Apply a light oil, such as 3-in-1 lubricant, to all cleaned parts. If your garage door opener has a chain or drive screw be sure to apply lubricant to the full length.
Weatherstripping. Check the weatherstripping along the sides and bottom of the garage door. Adjust or replace as necessary.
